Gas in oil 350 chevy
Re: Oil smells like fuel??? 10-16-06 04:31 AM - Post# 1015068 In response to 77chevy Well, you guys where right. I changed the oil and the fuel filter and the gas went away. When changed the oil the oil was pretty bad it looked like and smelled like there was alot of fuel in there. It looks fine now. Thanks for the help. When a fuel injector is stuck open, the fuel will flood out. Gasoline will definitely get into the oil when this is the case. If the fuel pressure in your car is too high (above 7 psi) that may cause gasoline to get into the engine oil. Gas could also leak into your intake manifold if there is a carburetor problem. Gas getting into oil becomes a cause for concern when the volume of gas exceeds 2.5 percent. If a large amount of gasoline does get into the engine oil; change the oil immediately upon fixing the problem that has allowed this to happen. Running thinner oils in an older engine might possibly cause it to burn oil (or more oil than it does). That said, for a good tight engine 5/30 or 10/30 should be fine--if you aren't sure, try it and watch your oil pressure on the real hot days, esp. at idle. If you don't like what you see switch to the next higher grade. 01-24-03 07:15 PM - Post# 165778 Hello, I am having a problem with Gasoline getting into my Engine oil in my 1970 Monte Carlo 350 Small block. I checked the dipstick one time and it looked milky and green, but no bubbles so I knew it couldn't be antifreeze/water mix. From my experience and if its oil that smells like gas, you can have excessive ring blow-by, a horribly rich mixture (if carbed), or bad leak-down from your injectors that result in cylinders getting gas puddles in them, which subsequently get past the rings while standing.
